You can look prosperous, appear successful, even seem happy—yet be spiritually dead. This is the condition of humanity apart from Christ: dead while walking, dressed up but lifeless. Adam's sin brought death to all, but Christ, the last Adam, brought life. Before salvation, we were corpses animated by flesh, going through motions without true life.
